Stefanie Jules Zimmerman – Statement of Work
Growing up I was exposed to an exciting array of toys and collectibles. This has ultimately influenced my art. I am reminded of these things constantly and enjoy putting these memories on canvas. Sometimes I paint from objects and other times I paint from memory, which gives me the freedom to make my own interpretations.
Many of my works have a story with characters and scenarios. My paintings take on narratives, real and imaginary. I like when the viewer is curious and interprets my work in their own way.
I am forever being influenced by my surroundings, people, travels, and special moments that make their way to my work.
I have been influenced by many artists. Some of my favorites are: Giotto’s frescos, the self-portraits of Durer and Rembrandt, Pissarro and Corot’s landscapes, up to the present including Thomas Hart Benton, Charles Burchfield, and Max Beckmann, Lovis Corinth, Adolfph Menzel, Richard Diebenkorn, Leonard Baskin, Mervin Jules & and my mentor and teacher Chester Arnold
